Most people know how to turn their phone into a hotspot (if they pay for that feature) when they have a mobile connection. But did you know you can share a wired or Wi-Fi connection from your laptop?
Since we’re on the verge of an American holiday week, many of you travelling might really like this tip. I discovered on a cruise last year that I could share my wired internet connection from my Windows laptop. I’ve since done this on airplanes where I buy one Wi-Fi connection and then share it with my other devices, too.
Benefits:
- Setup a single Internet connection through the airline, hotel, or cruise ship.
- Save money (if you have to pay for the connection) and share with your other devices or even your family.
- Sharing a wired connection is often faster and more secure than getting a Wi-Fi connection on each device.
Steps:
- Use a stationary device like a laptop on a desk.
- Connect it to the provided Wi-Fi or Ethernet and log into the Internet.
- Go to the network connection settings and Share that connection.
- The first time, you’ll have to name your own Wi-Fi connection, give it a password, and make it public for other devices to see.
- Browse the available Wi-Fi connections from your other devices and connect to it with the password from Step 4.
